Not doing a test-drive would create frustration on your wedding day. What am I talking about?
Waiting until the day of the wedding to try on the whole ensemble is never a good idea. Whether he is buying or renting, a practice run, at least 24 hours before the wedding, will alert you to trousers that were hemmed too long, two left shoes or the simple fact that you really don’t know how to tie that bow tie.

The ladies should try out samples of make-up to see the colours that would go well on her.The hairstyle and the wedding clothes should be tried to find out the fitting.

Many couples have rehearsals of the wedding before the D-day to be sure everything works well.

The Wedding planner should be  a competent  and skilled person enough to implement your ideas and understand your needs , working within your budget .

Discuss the event with them and do not be afraid to ask questions. Analyse every little  details of the event. Find out how much they will cover and how much you would do. Some people would want a planner to take care of absolutely everything from the cake to the ring. While others just need them to take care of  one or two things.
You should feel comfortable with them as you will be spending considerable amount of time with them. Planning an event whether corporate or wedding can be a great deal of fun, but there are often several hectic times as well. A professional planner can go a long way in making your event memorable and mesmerizing.

Couple of days ago, me and friends had a little argument about the number of people to invite for weddings. Personally, I feel the best way to satisfy all guests and make everyone happy is to have  a strict invite ( my personal choice by the way) . Knowing the number of people coming for your wedding and the reception will go a long way in helping one to curb the expense and keep to within budget .

Of course, friend B did not take that funny at all feeling weddings should be a happy moment for everyone and anyone; come one come all  party. Fair enough- if you have a blank cheque, you can invite the whole community!

Friend F feels controlling number is rude.My point is, if you invite a friend and that friend invites 5 other friends how does that work? Assuming you invite 100 friends and family in essence be ready to cater for 500 people?  Would the venue hall  be big enough to accommodate all the guests and extra people you never met in your life?  If you are on a budget is that wise? Do you really want to see people standing and not well fed at your wedding? If you feel it would be rude to be strict about who attends your wedding then at least when sending the invite you could add something like  +2 other friends permitted. Then one is able to have an idea of the number of people coming and how best to cater for them. This of-course depends on whether you like  a carnival style wedding or a proper sit-down meal wedding where everyone go home happy with a little thank you gift!

However, don’t forget everything depends on agreement from both families and if you have a need for a budget wedding

What do you think? Which would you prefer?

One would think that choosing your best man and usher is a very easy thing to do. Traditionally, your best man is your closest male relative or best paddy. Actually, your best man  and usher should be that person that will be ready, willing and able to take on the responsibilities and duties, before, during and immediately after the wedding.

More importantly  the best man should be someone that is  acceptable to your bride You really should think of making that day a happy day for the both of you. Ushers generally are chosen from both sides of the family but can quite acceptably be a group of friends.

When planning your wedding, choosing your vendors can be very stressful. You want to find high quality services that are within your wedding budget. The wedding cake is oftentimes the  point of a wedding reception, so you want it done right
These are some important questions to ask a potential wedding cake designer before making your decision to contract their services.
• Do you have my wedding date available? This is the main question as there is really no point discussing other issues if your wedding date is not available.
• How long have you been in business?
• Who will be baking/decorating our cake, and how many years experience do they have?
• Do you offer a free tasting so that we can try the various cake flavours and fillings?
• Do you do custom wedding cakes or just offer a set number of designs to choose from?
• Do you have a photo gallery or album that we can browse?
• What ingredients and icings do you typically use?
• Is there an additional fee for special fillings, flavours or other details?
• Can I add fresh flowers on our wedding cake and can you coordinate with our florist?

Your colour is Pink and his colour is Blue, so you want the style and theme of your wedding to resonate these chosen colours then you or your wedding planner come up with pink napkins, pink and blue flowers, pink clothes for the bridesmaids, pink sashes for the chair covers, pink and blue drapery… everything all matching!
It is quite easy to get caught up in the matching game. Although it’s your choice and seem like everyone is doing it,however be careful not to INSIST on doing the same  and honestly, your wedding planner should know better than drown the venue hall with one particular colour. Choose to be distinct!
Colours should be used strategically and creatively without being overly loud and harassing to the eyes. For example if the colour theme is pink and blue

  • Your bridesmaids can go full-on with pink.
  • The bouquet does not need to have pink. Some moments of blue could be on it otherwise choose a fresh and exotic look.
  • The sashes in the chair covers could have either pink or blue; in that case, the serving plates and napkins do not necessarily need to be the in the same colours. If the napkins, serving plates and drapery is pink and blue, then keep the chair covers plain white including the sashes.

Layering your main colour with another is also a great way to get your theme across without painting everything pink. Here is a simple use of pink in the decor.

This wedding is a “Gold and White” wedding. Notice the colour of the table cloth as against the gold napkin and sashes.

Sometimes the centrepiece is just enough to carry the story or the theme of the wedding like this below. This is a red, blue and black wedding theme.

This decor below is simple and refreshing without overly the top!

Things to consider while budgeting for your wedding :

1, What sort  of wedding are you looking to have? Flamboyant or just simple?

2, Who pays for what in the wedding as this gives you an idea of what you need to pay for.

3, How many people you are looking to invite gives an idea of how much you might need to spend on the D- day.

3, Who amongst your friends are willing to give a helping hand  as this might save you a lot of money.

4, Add an extra 15-20% on your expenses to avoid going over your overall budget -for instance if you have 10,000 naira to pay for your photographer, budget an  extra 1,500 -2,000 naira to avoid spending past your limit. This is called contingency plans.

5, Get two or more quotes for everything you would be needing to pay for in the wedding and make sure they are likes for likes to avoid problems e.g Cakes, Wedding ring, DJ, Photographer, Videographer,Wedding gown, Suits, Wedding decorations, Venues e.t.c

6, Keep every receipts for services paid for ; remember you only pay deposits for the services to be rendered and then you pay the balance  after the wedding  so its always easy to loose track of your expenses

7,  Make a list of all you need to pay for in the wedding then compare your budgeted cost and actual cost of all things. Get the difference and think  of how to reduce this variance.

What to do on the Hen Night!!

It’s not so much just to have a lovely venue for the hen party and yet not have a clue as to what you really want to do when you get there . Try to dissuade the bride from being too specific about her preferences as things might not always work that way.Always think of a cocktail of events that would most suit and please the spread of guests. For instance, would they prefer a sit down meal first rather than just having drinks and karaoke night? Would a health spa be better than a whole night clubbing? Also you might want to consider having a theme for the event to spice things up. Tell the girls to dress in fancy clothes, or any theme that you all like to take on, it could just be wearing wigs or plain t-shirts with the name of each person on front and back. Whatever theme you might decide to use, first check with the bride to be  and then the venue ,if  whatever you are wearing is allowed as it might just be a health hazard and you all get turned back at the entrance. Email/call your girls to ask what works best for them as well. Simplicity and practicality should be the key word. It should not be an opportunity to be brash and loose although that could be quite tempting! At the end of the day its all about the bride to be, its a girlie night, all about girl power and massive fun! Go! Go!! Girls!!!
