First… Recognise that unless you’re a robot, you will be a bit nervous. This is both natural and also probably a good thing.

Second… Remember that everyone’s there to support you, not laugh at you.

Third… remember that, from the minister’s perspective, he or she only has to hear that you mean what you say: e.g. you’re meant to say “I will” when asked if you will take this woman in marriage: but if you say, “Yes I do,” or even “I’d love to,” that will do, in that when it comes to the crunch, we as clergy are just asked to ensure that people mean what they say, and that they are going into this ceremony willingly. The exact words aren’t crucial in that sense. So if you stumble over your words a bit, don’t worry. You won’t have to come back the next day and do it again.

Fourth… in my experience, there is a real, and appropriate tension in a wedding service: basically, the ceremony gets more and more tense until the priest gets to say, “I now declare you husband and wife,” and after that, almost instantly, everyone loses all your nerves and it’ll be a happy run of adrenline and joy for the rest of the day. You’ve crossed the finishing line and you can relax. A bit like scoring the third away goal in a European cup tie: you’re definitely through to the next round. It’s remarkable how the atmosphere really builds up to that moment and then the tension just gets released. Every single time.

So… don’t worry too much, if you can. But do worry a bit. It shows that you mean it.
From Robert Stainer- Minister in Lambeth

Decide on a date- When choosing a date, having a stag –do the night before the wedding is generally a bad idea. Choose a date 2-3 weeks before the wedding day. Choose several dates that you think might work and discuss with the stags to find out the most convenient. Let the groom to be, know of this date.
Book Early- Whether it be hiring the VIP section, go- karting or travelling abroad whatever you wish to do. Do it early. If you have to book, book early to get the best price . It is always cheaper when you book months before the chosen date. Do not leave it until last minute.
Name a treasurer- Designate someone from the stags who is good and well trusted with money. So set up the fund for the stag activities. The treasurer will be responsible for chasing up the monies and keeping track of expenses and late payments.
Do not handle everything- Sometimes you might get overwhelmed with the load of responsibilities you would have in taking care of everything so why not delegate and appoint someone to take care of one thing or the other? Get a stag to take care of the t-shirt, get another to handle the transport e.t.c
Pranks- If you are going to pull a prank on the groom to be then plan it with the stags and make sure it’s a good and pleasant surprise. You can base it around his annoying habit.
Dressing Code- Get your dressing code right. Usually, you want to mark yourself out to indicate the event but be careful, if the party is going to be in a club, please check their requirement as certain shoes and t-shirts might not be allowed.

Talk to the stag- Find out what he would like to do on his stag do and work from there. He might like to have a quiet evening out with friends drinking or an adventurous trip or weekend away. Either ways it’s easier to work from the brief.

Make a guest list- Ask the stag which friends he will like to see at the do and work out a number. He might not really like the idea of having his work colleagues and bride’s father or brother around. In that case a separate outing could be arranged getting a number of between 8-20 is just enough number to deal with.

Make contact with the stags- Get the final names of those invited, their email addresses and number from the groom the groom to be. Get in contact with them by group emails or facebook and work out their budget and also if any has a cause of concern like alcohol, smoking, special diet e.t.c. Always keep them in the loop on the goings on the plan.

Look into the options- Considering the budget of the stags, start looking into the options of where and what you can do for the stag day. Get ideas from the stags and choose all available alternatives it could just be going away for the weekend, pub night or sightseeing. Whatever you choose to do, the groom to be should have the final say and approval

Having a child friendly wedding is a challenge for some but who would blame the poor bride who has got more than enough on her plate to worry about than some boisterous kids. But someone got to do something or else..

What should we ever do with friends who are bent on having their kids around during the wedding reception?

Don’t get me wrong. Kids are fun to be with and just heavenly especially on wedding days but mosttimes you will agree with me they need to be kept busy during the ceremony.

Went to a friends wedding and everything was going pretty well until two little kids decided to play on the stage . Quite a scene seeing the host play super nanny and keeping the guest well entertained. Not so for the bride though who did not find it funny one bit!

When you invite guests with children, you want to make provisions for the kids. You want to make sure there are no potential child hazards in the reception venue . you have baby changing facilities to ease mothers.

To get the kids entertained, these are some of the things you could do.

1, Create a table especially for kids full of crayons, pencil, story books, box of colourful toys e. t.c then assign an adult to engage them while the programme is on. This table should most probably be at the back of the venue so that any disruption at all can be contained easily and parents can keep an eye on their kids

2, If possible, hire a trampoline or bouncy castle outside to keep them away from the reception area. The trampoline should have an enclosure to prevent any falls. (A first aid kit should be readily available just in case)

3, Hire a face painter ,children’s entertainer or a clown to keep them well entertained while the show is on.

4, Assign the Best man and Chief bridesmaid the role of taking care of the flower girls and ring bearer.

Be creative, think of ways or things that would get kids excited enough to stay away from the NO-Go- Areas

Remember a trusted adult is always needed for supervision.
