Mothers of Bride and Groom are often more concerned about details of the wedding coming up and how to organize the perfect wedding for their son or daughter so its only natural for emotions to run high during the planning of the wedding between two mothers. They always want to get involved in cooking, finding the right dress, cake and others.

At this stage they could become quite sensitive. The biggest tool in helping your mum in building a positive and lasting relationship with your In-law is communication during the wedding planning.

Encourage your mothers to get involved by letting your mother-in-law in early, about any special concerns you might have and if something is not working out for either mum, don’t just let things simmer, speak up and deal with the issue.

You have to be firm at times in making certain decisions like your wedding dress, wedding cake and sometimes cooking for the wedding.

As the lifestyle of your Mother-in-law could be way different from your mothers, endeavour to find a common ground. In all, the immediate families could come together and discuss who needs to do what in organising the wedding and what is expected of each one.
